โต๊ะวางเลื่อยองศา 

Miter Saw Table

ในเวิร์คช็อปนอกจากมีโต๊ะเลื่อยวงเดือนตัวใหญ่ขนาดเลื่อยไม้แผ่นยาว 2 เมตรได้แล้วยังมีเลื่อยองศาอีก 2 ตัวที่ตั้งแต่ฉันมาเรียนไม่เคยเห็นอาจารย์สอนให้ใช้ มารู้ก็ตอนที่อาจารย์จะให้ทำโต๊ะวางเลื่อยนี่แหละว่าเพราะฐานที่แถมมากับเลื่อยมันโยกคลอนทำให้เลื่อยแล้วไม่ปลอดภัย อาจารย์เลยไม่ให้ใครใช้ และนี่ก็ถึงเวลาที่อาจารย์จะให้นักเรียนช่วยกันทำโต๊ะวางเลื่อยเพื่อที่จะได้ใช้เลื่อย 2 ตัวนี้ได้อย่างปลอดภัยสักที 

In the workshop, aside from the large table saw capable of cutting 2-meter boards, there were two miter saws that I had never seen Teacher teach anyone to use. I found out why when he asked us to build these tables: the bases provided with the saws were wobbly and unsafe. It was finally time for the students to build them tables so these two saws could be used safely.

งานนี้ฉันช่วยกันทำกับทุกคนในคลาสตั้งแต่การวัดไม้ ตัด บากร่อง เจียน ประกอบ นับเป็นงานกลุ่มที่นับเป็นงานกลุ่มจริงๆ มีแต่ส่วนของการอุดโป๊ว ขัด และทาเคลือบที่ฉันต้องทำคนเดียวเพราะวันที่ทำเป็นวันไหว้ครูไม่มีใครมาเลยนอกจากฉัน 

This was a true group project where I helped with everything from measuring, cutting, cutting grooves (dados), trimming, and assembling. I only did the putty filling, sanding, and coating alone because I did it on Teacher’s Day when no one else came to class.

โต๊ะตัวนี้ต่างจากม้านั่งตรงที่ไม่ได้ประกอบด้วยการเข้าเดือยดั้งเดิมแต่ใช้วิธีบากด้านนอกของขาแล้วเอาไม้พนังที่บากตรงหัวเฉียง 45 องศาแปะชนมุมกันแล้วเจาะรูยึดด้วยตะปูเกลียว (dado ผสม mitered butt) จุดที่น่าสนใจคือตอนบากด้านนอกของขาโต๊ะ อาจารย์ใช้วิธีเอาขาโต๊ะเข้าเลื่อยวงเดือนบากตรงที่ไม่เอาเป็นแว่นบางๆ ตอนแรกฉันนึกว่าอาจารย์จะให้ใช้สิ่วเซาะไม้แว่นบางๆ นั้นออก แต่เปล่า... อาจารย์ให้เอาค้อนทุบแผงไม้แว่นๆ นั่นทิ้งเลย ไม้แว่นแผ่นบางๆ ตอนโดนค้อนทุบแตกทั้งแผงเสียงดังเหมือนกระเบื้องแตก เศษไม้กระจัดกระจายเหมือนเศษแก้วดูแล้วรู้สึกสะใจเล็กๆ (แอบซาดิสม์) 

This table differed from the bench as it didn't use traditional mortise and tenon joints. Instead, we cut grooves (dados) on the outside of the legs and attached the aprons (which had mitered ends cut at 45 degrees) by butting the corners together and securing them with screws (dado mixed with mitered butt joint). An interesting point was how we cut the grooves on the legs. Teacher had us run the legs through the table saw to cut thin slices in the area we wanted to remove. I thought we would use a chisel to chip them out, but no... Teacher told us to use a hammer to just smash the thin slices out! The sound of the wood shattering was like breaking tiles, and the chips scattered like glass. It was oddly satisfying (I might be a bit sadistic).

การประกอบท็อปใช้วิธีเจาะรูจากด้านบนใส่ตะปูเกลียวแล้วเอาเดือยฝังตามเพื่อปิดรูตะปู ตอนแรกในแบบที่อาจารย์เขียนไม่มีไม้คานตรงกลางระหว่างพนัง ฉันถามอาจารย์ว่าเลื่อยหนักมั้ย อาจารย์บอกว่าหนักพอควร ฉันเลยเสนอให้ใส่ไม้คานตรงกลางเพื่อรับน้ำหนักเพิ่ม ตัวที่ทำจริงเลยมีคานตรงกลางเพิ่มขึ้นมา  

The top was attached by drilling holes from the top, screwing it down, and then covering the screw heads with wooden plugs. Initially, Teacher’s design didn't have a center support beam. I asked if the saws were heavy; he said yes. I suggested adding a center beam for extra weight support, so the final version included it.

พอทำเสร็จต้องช่วยกันขนเลื่อยขึ้นโต๊ะแล้วเจาะรูใส่นอตยึดเลื่อยกับโต๊ะด้วย ทุลักทุเลพอควรแต่งานที่เสร็จแล้วก็ดูสวย มั่นคง และใช้งานได้จริงตามที่อาจารย์ออกแบบไว้ 

Once finished, we had to lift the saws onto the table and drill holes to bolt them down. It was a struggle, but the finished work looked beautiful, stable, and functional just as Teacher designed.
