ชุดเก้าอี้รับแขก 

Living Room Chair Set

เป็นงานซ่อมที่ทางผู้ใหญ่ที่รู้จักกับผู้อำนวยการส่งต่อมาให้อาจารย์ซ่อมให้ เดิมเป็นเก้าอี้หวายถักแต่พอหวายขาดเจ้าของเลยอยากให้อาจารย์เปลี่ยนท็อปเก้าอี้เป็นไม้กระดานให้มีทั้งหมด 6 ตัว (ตอนแรกเจ้าของจะให้อาจารย์ทำเบาะให้ด้วยแต่อาจารย์บอกให้ไปติดต่อแผนกเย็บปักถักร้อยเอาเอง) 

This was a repair job sent to Teacher by a VIP acquaintance of the School Director. Originally, they were woven rattan chairs but the rattan had torn. The owner wanted Teacher to replace the seats with wooden planks—6 chairs in total. (Originally, the owner wanted cushions made too, but Teacher told him to contact the sewing department for that).

ความยากอยู่ที่เพราะเก้าอี้มีส่วนโค้งหน้าและหลังเล็กๆ และมีหัวของขายื่นขึ้นมาตรงส่วนท็อปที่นั่ง ทำให้อาจารย์ต้องวัดแล้วทำต้นแบบขึ้นมาก่อนเพื่อดูว่าท็อปที่สร้างขึ้นสามารถเสียบลงไปได้พอดีโดยไม่ติดหัวขาเก้าอี้มั้ย เมื่ออาจารย์สร้างต้นแบบแล้วฉันกับนักเรียนอีกคนก็ช่วยกันเลื่อย เกลา เจียน ขัด ทาเคลือบท็อปของทุกตัว (นักเรียนคนอื่นไปช่วยกันทำรูปในหลวง) แต่ละตัวดันสัดส่วนไม่เท่ากันเล็กน้อยด้วย ต้องเขียนหมายเลขกำกับว่าท็อปแผ่นไหนเข้ากับตัวไหนไม่งั้นตอนประกอบจะไม่ลงอาจต้องเจียนเพิ่ม นับเป็นงานที่ฝึกความใจเย็นพอควร 

The difficulty lay in the small curves at the front and back of the chair, and the fact that the tops of the legs protruded up through the seat area. Teacher had to measure and create a prototype to ensure the new wooden seat would fit without the leg tops’ obstruction. Once the prototype was set, another student and I helped saw, shape, trim, sand, and coat the tops for all the chairs. (Other students were busy making the King Rama IX frames). Each chair had slightly different proportions, so we had to number them to ensure the right seat went to the right chair; otherwise, they wouldn't fit and would need re-trimming. A good test of patience.
