Finally, the 25th Anniversary Edition eBook of the Diabolique series is complete and ready for you all!
This series marks my professional debut. Historically speaking, this was actually the first Thai GL (Yuri) manga to be published in a nationwide magazine. It was also the first Thai comic to feature on the cover of C-Kids (a weekly magazine licensed by Shonen Jump), even if it was just in a small corner.
Back in 1998, when the first chapter of Diabolique was published, prejudice against the LGBT community was widespread in society, including among Thai cartoonists. No one was writing GL back then. In fact, simply writing an action comic with a female protagonist was enough to trigger criticism. Because of this, I faced harsh criticism from within the industry when the story was published. Some of this escalated into a group of "haters" who stalked and harassed me on social media, eventually crossing the line into my personal life.
However, alongside the negative experiences from those who discriminated against the genre, I also received immense love and encouragement from readers. I made many friends who shared a love for comics through this work. Most importantly, writing this story led me to meet littleseal. So, even though 25 years have passed, the Diabolique series remains deeply meaningful to us.
When littleseal first proposed compiling this collection, I was worried that both the plot and the art style might feel too outdated. But I reconsidered, thinking there might be Thai readers who want this as a keepsake, or international readers who discovered me through the In the Closet series and are curious about my past works, so I agreed. (Though the main reason is that I wanted to keep it as a personal chronicle of my own journey).
Unfortunately, due to various circumstances, the schedule was pushed back. By the time we dusted it off to continue, it was already late in the year. I am just glad we finished before the year ended; otherwise, I would have had to wait another 5 years for the 30th anniversary just to get a nice round number (LOL).
This eBook would not exist without littleseal, who served as the core force in compiling the manuscript, arranging the layout, and constantly pushing and encouraging me. Therefore, please direct all praise for this eBook to littleseal, but if there are any complaints, please direct them to me.
If my passion doesn't burn out first, I might write a new chapter for Diabolique after finishing the final season of Del Vento (though I wonder if the military action genre will be out of style by then). ในที่สุดอีบุ๊ครวมเล่มซีรีย์ส Diabolique ฉบับครบรอบ 25 ปีก็เสร็จสมบูรณ์และได้มาปรากฏโฉมต่อหน้าผู้อ่านทุกท่านแล้ว!
ซีรี่ย์สนี้คืองานเทิร์นโปรของฉัน หากนับกันจริงๆ นี่คือการ์ตูน GL (ยูริ) เรื่องแรกของไทยที่ตีพิมพ์ในนิตยสารที่วางขายทั่วประเทศและเป็นการ์ตูนไทยเรื่องแรกที่ได้ขึ้นปก C-Kids แม็กกาซีนรายสัปดาห์ลิขสิทธิ์จาก Shonen Jump (ถึงจะอยู่แค่มุมเล็กๆ ก็เถอะ) เพราะในปีที่ Diabolique ตอนแรกตีพิมพ์ในไทย (1998) ตอนนั้นคนในสังคมส่วนใหญ่รวมทั้งนักเขียนการ์ตูนไทยยังเหยียด LGBT และยังไม่มีใครเขียน GL (อย่าว่าแต่เขียน GL เลยแค่เขียนการ์ตูนแอคชั่นที่มีตัวเอกเป็นผู้หญิงก็เป็นชนวนให้ถูกต่อว่าได้แล้ว) ตอนที่เรื่องนี้ได้รับการตีพิมพ์ฉันจึงถูกคนในวงการเดียวกันวิจารณ์อย่างหนักและบางส่วนก็พัฒนามาเป็นกลุ่ม Hater ไล่ตามคุกคามฉันทั้งในโซเชียลฯ และล้ำเส้นมาคุกคามถึงเรื่องชีวิตส่วนตัว
แม้การเขียนเรื่องนี้จะทำให้ต้องเจอกับประสบการณ์ไม่ดีหลายอย่างจากคนที่เหยียดเพศแต่ฉันก็ได้รับความรักและกำลังใจจากผู้อ่านและได้รู้จักเพื่อนกลุ่มคนรักการ์ตูนมากมายจากการเขียนเรื่องนี้ด้วยเช่นกัน และที่สำคัญที่สุดคือการเขียนเรื่องนี้ทำให้ฉันได้รู้จักกับแมวน้ำน้อย ฉะนั้นถึงจะผ่านมาแล้ว 25 ปีแต่ซีรี่ย์ส Diabolique ก็ยังมีความหมายกับพวกเราเสมอ
ตอนแรกที่แมวน้ำน้อยบอกว่าจะรวมเล่มเรื่องนี้ฉันกังวลว่าทั้งเนื้อเรื่องและลายเส้นจะล้าสมัยเกินไปแล้ว แต่พอนึกว่าอาจมีนักอ่านชาวไทยที่อยากเก็บเรื่องนี้เป็นที่ระลึกหรือนักอ่านชาวต่างชาติที่รู้จักฉันจากซีรีส์ In the Closet แล้วอยากรู้ว่าฉันเคยเขียนเรื่องอะไรก็เลยตกลง (แต่เหตุผลหลักคือฉันอยากทำเพื่อเก็บเป็นบันทึกการเดินทางส่วนตัวของฉันเอง) แต่เพราะเกิดเรื่องหลายๆ อย่างทำให้แผนงานเลื่อนหมดกว่าจะมีเวลามาปัดฝุ่นทำต่อก็เล่นเอาปลายปีแต่ดีที่เสร็จทันก่อนสิ้นปีไม่งั้นคงต้องรออีก 5 ปีเพื่อให้ครบ 30 ไม่งั้นเลขไม่สวย ฮา...
อีบุ๊คนี้จะเกิดขึ้นไม่ได้เลยหากไม่มีแมวน้ำน้อยเป็นแกนหลักทั้งในการรวบรวมต้นฉบับ จัดรูปเล่ม และคอยผลักดันสร้างกำลังใจให้ฉันอยู่เสมอ ฉะนั้นทุกคำชมที่จะมีให้แก่อีบุ๊คเล่มนี้ฉันขอยกทั้งหมดให้แมวน้ำแต่หากมีข้อตำหนิโปรดมาติที่ฉัน
