ตอนนั่งทำงานอยู่เปิดซีรีส์เรื่อง "ทนายปีศาจ" ที่กำลังเป็นกระแสกันอยู่ ดูจบแล้วโดยรวมถือว่าทำได้ดีทั้งบท การแสดง การถ่ายทำ การนำเสนอเนื้อหาวิพากษ์กระบวนการยุติธรรมของไทย การดำเนินเรื่องและมุมภาพมีกลิ่นอายซีรีส์เกาหลีบ้าง แต่นับเป็นการเริ่มต้นที่ดี คาดว่าหากซีรีส์แนวหนัก ๆ แบบนี้เป็นที่นิยมและมีการสร้างกันมากขึ้นอาจมีการพัฒนาเป็นแนวทางของตนเองขึ้น (ในเรื่องมีคดีคุ้น ๆ หลายคดีเลย ฮา...)
While sitting at work, I put on the currently trending series "The Evil Lawyer". Having finished it, overall I would say it is very well-made in terms of the script, the acting, the cinematography, and its presentation critiquing the Thai justice system. The pacing and camera angles have a slight Korean drama vibe to them, but it is a solid start. I expect that if heavy, serious dramas like this become popular and get produced more often, they might eventually develop their own distinct path. (There were quite a few familiar real-life cases in the show, lol.)
สิ่งหนึ่งที่อยากชมคือการพูดถึงปัญหาสังคมในเรื่องโดยเฉพาะเรื่องการค้ามนุษย์ ตอนนั้นฉันเขียน Del Vento ส่วนหนึ่งก็เพราะอยากนำเสนอความโหดร้ายของประเด็นนี้ แต่ด้วยข้อจำกัดของสื่อที่เป็นเว็บคอมิกกับกลุ่มผู้อ่านที่นิยมแนวรักโรแมนติกมากกว่าเลยทำให้ไม่สามารถสะท้อนภาพให้ผู้อ่านรู้สึกอินและไม่สามารถจูงใจให้ผู้อ่านหยิบประเด็นนี้มาพูดถึงในวงกว้างได้ (ตอนนั้นผู้อ่านพูดถึงแต่ "อยากให้พระเอกเป็นผู้ชาย" หรือ "ใครเป็นนางเอก" หรือ "เมื่อไหร่พระเอกจะรักกับนางเอก" ทำเอาฉันเศร้าไปเลย ฮา...) วันนี้พอได้เห็นมีคนทำสื่อบันเทิงนำเสนอเรื่องนี้ให้เข้าสู่คนกลุ่มใหญ่ได้เลยรู้สึกดีใจและหวังว่ามันจะช่วยจุดประกายให้นำไปสู่การแก้ปัญหาอย่างจริงจังสักที
One thing I really want to praise is how it addresses social issues, particularly human trafficking. Back when I wrote Del Vento, part of my intention was to expose the cruelty of this matter. However, due to the limitations of webcomics as a medium, combined with a readership that leaned heavily toward romance, I couldn't quite reflect the reality vividly enough to make readers feel truly invested, nor could I motivate them to spark a wider conversation around the topic. (At the time, the readers only talked about things like "I wish the protagonist was male," "Who is the female lead?", or "When will the protagonist fall in love with female lead?" It honestly made me a bit sad, lol.) Seeing mainstream entertainment bring this issue to a larger audience today makes me genuinely happy, and I hope it serves as a spark that leads to some real, serious problem-solving for once.
หากซีรีส์นี้จะมีข้อติคงมีแค่จุดเดียว คือการให้ตัวเอกเป็นชู้กับชายที่แต่งงานแล้ว ส่วนตัวฉันเข้าใจว่าทางผู้ผลิตคงต้องการให้ตัวเอกแสดงความเป็นคนที่ขาดความเห็นอกเห็นใจในเพื่อนมนุษย์โดยเฉพาะกับผู้หญิงด้วยกันเลยใส่ประเด็นนี้ลงไปเพื่อช่วยตอกย้ำ แต่ถ้าดูจากความที่ตัวเอกมีฉากที่เคยพูดถึงว่าตน "ถนัดเรื่องฟ้องหย่าแบ่งทรัพย์สิน" นั่นแปลว่าตัวเอกต้องรู้ดีอยู่แล้วถึงผลทางกฎหมายของการเป็นชู้ และจากการดำเนินเรื่องที่กระตุ้นให้ผู้ชมรู้สึกอยู่ตลอดว่าความลับไม่มีในโลกและฝ่ายตรงข้ามสามารถสืบได้หมดทุกอย่างแบบเดียวกับที่ตัวเอกสืบค้นเรื่องของคนอื่น การที่ตัวเอกทำเช่นนี้จึงดูเป็นการสร้างจุดอ่อนให้ตัวเองโดยไม่จำเป็น (เว้นแต่จะรักชอบชายคนนี้จนถึงขนาดยอมยุ่งด้วยทั้ง ๆ ที่รู้ว่ามีเจ้าของก็อีกเรื่อง แต่ตามท้องเรื่องก็ดูเหมือนจะไม่ใช่อีก)
If I had to point out a flaw in this series, it would be just one thing: having the protagonist commit adultery with a married man. Personally, I understand that the producers likely wanted to highlight her lack of empathy for fellow human beings, especially toward other women, so they inserted this plot point to hammer it home. But considering there is a scene where the protagonist explicitly states that she "specializes in divorce and asset division lawsuits," she should be fully aware of the legal ramifications of being an affair partner. Furthermore, with the storytelling constantly reminding the audience that there are no secrets in this world and that the opposing side can dig up everything in the exact same way the protagonist investigates others, her doing this feels like creating an entirely unnecessary weak point for herself. (Unless she loved this man so deeply that she was willing to get involved despite knowing he was taken, but based on the storyline, that does not seem to be the case either).
ฉันเคยดูหนังเรื่องหนึ่ง (ของตะวันตกจำชื่อไม่ได้) ที่ทนายสาวตัวเอกต้องการคลายอารมณ์โดยไม่ต้องการพันธะเลยไปซื้อบริการชายเพราะคิดว่าปลอดภัยตามรอยไม่ได้ แต่ผลสุดท้ายชายขายบริการคนนั้นก็ถูกฝ่ายตรงข้ามตามมาให้ปากคำในศาลว่า "รู้จักกับทนายคนนี้หรือไม่" เพื่อต้องการทำลายความน่าเชื่อถือของตัวทนายสาว ซึ่งในเรื่องนั้นชายขายบริการยอมโกหกให้ตัวเอกว่า "ไม่รู้จัก" ทนายสาวเลยรอดพ้นจากการถูกทำลายชื่อเสียงกรณีซื้อบริการทางเพศ
I once watched a Western film (I cannot recall the title) where the female lawyer protagonist wanted to relieve some stress without any emotional strings attached, so she hired a male sex worker because she thought it would be untraceable and safe. In the end, the opposing side tracked that sex worker down and brought him to testify in court, asking, "Do you know this lawyer?" purely to destroy her credibility. In that movie, the sex worker agreed to lie for her, saying "I don't know her," which allowed the lawyer to escape having her reputation ruined over soliciting sex.
ฉะนั้นนี่จึงเป็นจุดเดียวในเรื่องที่ฉันคิดว่าเป็นจุดที่ไม่สมเหตุสมผลเพราะเป็นจุดอ่อนที่ใหญ่มากของตัวเอกแต่กลับไม่มีการนำมาใช้ต่อในเรื่อง ทั้งที่ฝ่ายตรงข้าม (ซึ่งสามารถสืบรู้ขนาดตัวเอกพ่อแม่เป็นใครเคยมีอดีตมีปมอะไรแต่กลับไม่รู้ว่าตัวเอกเป็นชู้กับสามีชาวบ้าน?) สามารถนำเรื่องนี้มาแบล็กเมล์ เปิดโปงเพื่อทำลายความน่าเชื่อถือ หรือแจ้งทางภรรยาของชายที่ตัวเอกไปยุ่งด้วยให้มาหาเรื่องทะเลาะจนกลายเป็นเรื่องรบกวนจิตใจกลายเป็นคดีซ้อนคดีก็สามารถทำได้แต่กลับไม่พูดถึงเลย กลายเป็นฝ่ายตรงข้ามใจดีปล่อยให้ตัวเอกทำเควสเก็บไอเทมมาคอยไล่ถลุงอยู่ฝ่ายเดียว แต่เพราะกลางเรื่องชายที่ตัวเอกเป็นชู้ด้วยบอกว่าหย่าเมียแล้ว (แต่โดยส่วนตัวดูจากความห่างของเวลาแล้วดูเร็วเกินไปที่การหย่าจะเสร็จสิ้น เพราะตอนที่ชายคนนี้ปรากฏตัวในเรื่องครั้งแรก หลังมีเซ็กซ์กันเสร็จตัวเอกกลับไปแล้วชายคนนี้ยังหยิบแหวนแต่งงานมาใส่แล้วนอนเล่นมือถือบนเตียงต่อ นั่นแปลว่าตอนนั้นยังไม่ได้เลิกกันเพราะไม่งั้นคงไม่หยิบมาใส่ แต่พอกลางเรื่องกลับบอกว่าหย่าแล้ว) เลยถือเป็นการยกประโยชน์ให้ทางผู้ผลิตไป (ฮา...)
Therefore, this is the only part of the story that I feel lacks logic, because it is a massive vulnerability for the protagonist that is never actually utilized later on. The opposing side (who somehow managed to dig up who her parents were and her deepest past traumas, yet remained completely oblivious to the fact that she was sleeping with someone else's husband?) could have easily used this to blackmail her, exposed it to ruin her credibility, or tipped off the wife to come cause a chaotic scene, turning it into a complex secondary lawsuit. Yet, it was never brought up. It makes the antagonists look bizarrely generous, passively letting the protagonist run around completing quests and farming items to beat them up uncontested. However, because the man she was having an affair with announced midway through the show that he had already divorced his wife (though personally, judging by the timeline, it felt way too fast for a divorce to be finalized; when this man first appeared, right after their hookup and after the protagonist left, he put his wedding ring back on and lay in bed scrolling on his phone, proving they hadn't broken up yet), I will just give the producers the benefit of the doubt on that one (lol).
แต่ถึงจะมีจุดบกพร่องเล็ก ๆ น้อย ๆ แต่ฉันก็ขอชมทางทีมผู้สร้างซีรีส์เรื่อง "ทนายปีศาจ" ที่กล้าสร้างละครที่พูดถึงเรื่องยาก ๆ มีสาระให้แง่คิด โดยที่ยังสามารถนำเสนอได้ดูน่าสนใจและเข้าถึงคนส่วนใหญ่ได้ดี เป็นกำลังใจให้สร้างผลงานใหม่ ๆ ให้ดียิ่งขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ จะรอติดตามชม
Still, despite these minor flaws, I must commend the production team behind "The Evil Lawyer" for having the courage to create a drama that tackles difficult, substantive topics while keeping the presentation engaging and accessible to the mainstream public. I am rooting for them to create even better works in the future, and I will be waiting to follow their next projects.
พูดถึงประเด็นร้อนอีกประเด็นหนึ่งในช่วงนี้ที่ไม่มีพูดถึงในซีรีส์นี้แต่ฉันเคยพูดถึงใน Del Vento คือเรื่องที่ต่างชาติถือครองที่ดินผิดกฎหมายแล้วนำมาพัฒนาเป็นโรงแรมรีสอร์ตหรือบ้านพัก ตามท้องเรื่องฉันกำหนดให้เหตุเกิดที่พัทยาเพราะช่วงนั้นต่างชาติเข้าที่พัทยาเยอะ แต่ปัจจุบันที่กำลังเป็นข่าวมีคำสั่งรื้อถอนคือที่ภูเก็ต แม่ฮ่องสอน คือ...ฉันอยากจะบอกว่าที่เป็นข่าวนี่ไม่ใช่ว่าเป็นเรื่องเพิ่งเกิดแต่มันเกิดขึ้นมานานแล้ว และไม่ใช่แค่พื้นที่เล็ก ๆ แต่เป็นหมู่บ้านหรือเมืองราวกับเป็นอาณานิคมที่มีแต่ชาวต่างชาตินั้น ๆ อาศัยอยู่และเป็นเขตห้ามคนไทยเข้าด้วยซ้ำ
Speaking of another hot topic lately that was not mentioned in this series, but which I touched upon in Del Vento, is the issue of foreigners illegally holding land to develop hotels, resorts, or residential villas. In my story, I set the setting in Pattaya because there was a massive influx of foreigners there at the time. However, the places currently making the news with demolition orders are Phuket and Mae Hong Son. The thing is... I want to point out that these news stories are not about some recent phenomenon; this has been going on for a very long time. And it is not just happening in small patches of area, but across entire villages or towns functioning almost like foreign colonies where Thai people are strictly forbidden from entering.

Naturally, foreigners could not pull something like this off on their own without the help of Thai civil servants. This is another ongoing issue we have to monitor, to see whether the authorities will actually be able to bring those involved into the justice system.

P.S. I was joking with littleseal that if Del Vento were written this year instead of 7 years ago, the plot might have shifted from foreign mafias in Pattaya to Jewish mafias in Pai instead (lol).
